Bonus Assignment #3 If one of your creative goal's is to paint like an Impressionist, this one is for you. Learn to use your limited colour palette to expand your available hues. This technique will help freshen your paintings, and add life and variety to tones. Download this exercise here: bonus_assignment_-_colour.pdf As always, I am available to support and instruct, as needed, via Zoom, email or phone call. I look forward to seeing where your creativity will lead you. Miss you all, Mrs. Cruikshank Tuesday, April 28, 2020
Bonus Assignment #2 I have been learning to make videos! This week, the video is on elliptical perspective. Drawing ellipses in a way that takes into account perspective. You can find the video "Elliptical Perspective" here: youtu.be/BeENj730MYc Good luck, hope you have fun with this! :-) https://youtu.be/BeENj730MYc Monday, April 20, 2020 Bonus Assignment #1 Welcome to the first bonus assignment! I will post these periodically to help you build more skills, broaden your media base, or just plain have fun doing a new challenge! These are also good ways to boost your grades! Challenge #1: Painting with tea or coffee! Here are some useful YouTube videos by artist Kasey Golden that might help: Painting with tea - www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lDWsv6beVE Painting with coffee - www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtC-QmqaApw&list=PLg0WZvkaJwXAn8youeDOsWPr1ip3YI3vG Here are some examples: Below left is a painting I did using supermarket teas: Orange Pekoe (Tetley), Chamomile (Stash), Cherry, Blueberry and Respberry (Celestial Seasonings). You don't have to use what I did - by all means, make your own combination! To the right is some coffee art done by my grade 10 daughter. She turned hers into a mixed media piece with acrylic, pencil and ballpoint pen. No special paper was used for either piece - I used my sketchbook and my daughter used lined copy paper. Surprises to watch for:
Some teas don't dry anything like the colour they start out as. The cherry, raspberry and blueberry, which started out as deep reds, dried in shaades of bluegrey, teal and blue. It is useful to start out with some colour tests. Thursday, April 16, 2020 Happy Thursday folks! Just a couple of things for now:
Welcome to WSS Visual Arts Online! Hello Westview students and families!
I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. While this is not the return to classes I anticipated, I aim to find some creative ways for you to channel your creativity as well as continue your learning in art. I miss you all, I miss being creative with you. I am looking forward to reconnecting with all of you over the coming weeks. In order for us to continue with our education while also practicing social and physical distancing, we must explore a brave new world of distance based art education. Please be patient with everyone, including yourselves, on our journey as we figure this all out, together.
